Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Cedar Rapids Web Design websites are always optimized for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). What does this mean?

Letting Google know what your website is about is similar in many ways to letting a real human know what your website is about, with some subtle differences.

Google has many ways of determining what your website is about, so that they can present your website in the search results to people looking for what you do/offer. Headings are important, as well as keywords, and images, and sitemaps. You also need to submit your website’s sitemap to the Google Search Console for indexing.

Headings tell people what a page is about. It also tells Google what the page is about. In HTML there’s a difference between a paragraph and a heading. It might seem like a silly distinction to a human but for a crawl bot it’s an important distinction.

Keywords are important but not in the way they used to be. Meta tags are a thing of the past, and content is the future. If your page is supposed to be able underwater basket weaving, but you don’t have the phrase “underwater basket weaving” in the content of that page, or it’s only there once, how is Google supposed to be absolutely sure that somebody doing a search for “underwater basket weaving” would be interested in viewing your site?

Google’s crawl-bots can’t tell what an image is by “looking at it” like a human can. So how do they know what the image is? Several ways, the name of the image file, the image alt text, title and description.

That’s a lot of information and can be a bit overwhelming for a business owner who isn’t familiar with web development. Rest assured, it’s not overwhelming for us. We eat sleep and breathe SEO here at Cedar Rapids Web Design and we always use the best SEO practices when developing a website.

Mobile Friendly/Responsive

Today’s internet is not yesterday’s internet. Things in the world of technology change at an amazing rate, the internet doubly so.

At Cedar Rapids Web Design we’ve been designing and building websites for over 15 years. We’ve watched as the internet went from Desktop only, to Desktop first, to Mobile first.

It’s more important than ever today that your website is mobile friendly and responsive. Google, in an attempt to give users the best experience possible, has even started to give better search engine ranking to websites that are mobile friendly. This is because they know that many people will be searching and viewing web pages on their mobile devices, and if your website doesn’t scale well, they’re going to be turned off and go back to the search results and keep looking.

At Cedar Rapids Web Design, we make sure all our websites look good on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and phones. We also make sure they work in multiple web browsers.

Professional Design

Far too many startups and small businesses struggle to gain any traction, and many times their struggle has nothing to do with their product or service, but with their brand/marketing. Nothing says “we don’t know what we’re doing” like a poorly designed website. This is why at Cedar Rapids Web Design, we utilize only the most talented designers in the Creative Corridor, to make sure our websites are always fresh, aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate.
